Monaco has taken a further step in strengthening its civil security capabilities through enhanced international cooperation with Mauritania, a partner nation with which the Principality has maintained close ties since 1996…

Earlier this week, a Mauritanian delegation specialising in civil security and crisis management spent several days in Monaco as part of an intensive programme of exchanges, training and operational briefings.

The visit followed a reciprocal mission in 2024, when a Monegasque delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs travelled to Mauritania, underlining a long-standing relationship built on trust, shared expertise and practical support. During their stay in the Principality, the Mauritanian representatives were introduced to Monaco’s approach to emerging risks, including large-scale structural fires, confined-space incidents and the increasingly complex challenges posed by modern construction.

A key moment of the programme was a visit to specialised facilities, where delegates were able to observe advanced fire simulation scenarios and operational responses that are likely to become increasingly relevant in Mauritania as urban development accelerates. Particular attention was given to prevention strategies, tactical coordination and the management of air quality during enclosed-space fires — areas where Monaco has developed recognised expertise.

This cooperation builds on nearly three decades of collaboration between the Monaco Fire and Emergency Corps and Mauritanian civil security services. Over the years, this partnership has included training exchanges, donations of equipment and financial support from the Princely Government, notably contributing to the construction of three fire stations in Mauritania.

Described by both sides as constructive and forward-looking, the visit reaffirmed the human dimension of this partnership, rooted in shared values and mutual confidence. The cooperation is set to continue in 2026, with a planned visit by a Monegasque fire brigade delegation to Mauritania, further strengthening a relationship that extends beyond security into health, education and broader development.
