The National Council adopted Monaco’s 2026 preliminary budget last night, marking the close of the year’s final public session…

Of the 23 national councillors present, 15 voted in favour, five opposed and three abstained, allowing the budget to pass with a projected surplus of more than €8.8 million.

Speaking after the vote, Minister of State Christophe Mirmand highlighted the significance of the debates, which he described as reflecting both the diversity and the resilience of the Monegasque economy. The budget sets out the financial framework for the year ahead while maintaining the Principality’s long-standing commitment to fiscal balance.

At municipal level, councillors also approved the 2026 preliminary budget, which will reach a record level of just over €113 million, representing an increase of around 21 percent. This rise is largely linked to major investment projects, including the restructuring of the Condamine market, while the overall financial position of the municipality is expected to remain stable.

Several sectors will see notable increases in funding, particularly local animation, which will rise by 20 percent, and social action budgets supporting seniors and early childhood services. The municipality will also continue adapting its organisational structure to meet the needs of new and reopening facilities.

Among the key projects scheduled for 2026 are the reopening of the Exotic Garden in March, with free access for Monegasque residents, the launch of the new Live by Léo Ferré concert hall in September, and the long-awaited reopening of the Espace Saint-Martin in June. Urban development was also on the agenda, with approval given to the restructuring and extension of Villa Sauber in Larvotto.
