A court in Monaco has handed suspended prison sentences to two Galatasaray supporters following an altercation that took place after a Champions League match at the Stade Louis II, an incident that left Louis Ducruet and two companions injured and shaken…
As reported by Monaco Matin, the case was heard in an expedited hearing on Friday, December 12, under heightened security outside the courthouse. The defendants, a father and son from the Paris region, were convicted of intentional violence causing injuries resulting in fewer than eight days of incapacity for work. The altercation occurred in a VIP area of the stadium following AS Monaco’s 1–0 victory over the Turkish club, amid a tense atmosphere marked by earlier verbal exchanges between supporters.
The court heard two conflicting accounts of a brief but intense confrontation, in the absence of CCTV footage. Medical reports confirmed injuries to all parties involved, though none were under the influence of alcohol. Louis Ducruet told the court that he intervened to protect a friend and prevent the situation from escalating, describing a moment in which he feared for his personal safety as punches were thrown. His testimony was supported by the prosecution, which argued that his actions were defensive in nature and that the violence directed towards him had targeted vulnerable areas.
The defence maintained that the accused acted in self-defence, disputing the sequence of events and questioning the conduct of all those involved. However, the public prosecutor rejected this argument, citing medical evidence and witness statements.
The court ultimately sentenced both defendants to two months’ suspended imprisonment, imposed a three-year ban from entering Monaco, and ordered compensation of €1,000 to each victim. The ruling brings legal closure to an incident that has highlighted the importance of crowd management and supporter conduct at high-profile sporting events in the Principality.
