Former National Council member Daniel Boeri has published a new book titled The Planet Needs Us, an exploration of how economics and environmental policy are inseparable in addressing the global climate crisis…

The work arrives as His Serene Highness Prince Albert II attends the COP30 summit in Belém, Brazil — an event highlighting the urgency of coordinated global action on climate change.

As Daniel Boeri told Monaco Info, his book examines how the economy not only influences but often determines the environmental choices made by nations. “It’s not an ecological issue — it’s a matter of survival,” he said, noting that humanity has been “living on credit” since July 25, 2025, consuming resources at a rate equivalent to 1.7 planets per year. Boeri argues that international solidarity is vital, particularly with the 48 countries unable to provide basic living conditions for their citizens. He suggests that at least five percent of global GDP should be devoted to environmental action to ensure a viable future for all.

In his foreword, HSH Prince Albert II commends Boeri’s clear-sighted yet calm approach, writing that the book “presents a lucid observation without being alarmist.” Boeri echoes this sentiment, saying his goal is to “make people want to get involved, not to frighten them.”

The final section of The Planet Needs Us offers a message of hope. Boeri highlights encouraging developments in renewable energy, particularly in China, which he describes as both a major polluter and a leader in clean technologies such as solar, wind, and hydrogen. He cites new storage capacities and infrastructure projects as tangible signs that humanity is learning to balance progress with preservation.

Ultimately, Boeri’s message is pragmatic and optimistic: that collective awareness, backed by economic responsibility, can still redirect the course of climate change.
