Monegasque residents turned out in large numbers for the traditional plant donation organised by Monaco Town Hall at Princess Antoinette Park…
The annual event, now a much-loved tradition, allows residents to collect flowers, shrubs, and houseplants to brighten their balconies and gardens while promoting urban biodiversity. From dipladenias and begonias to bamboo and geraniums, hundreds of plants found new homes across the Principality.
According to Monaco Info, the initiative is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and green living. “Every year it’s a great success,” said one of the park’s gardeners, noting that late autumn is the perfect time to prepare for the next growing season. Many participants said they value the opportunity not only to collect plants but to give them a second life, creating a more colourful and eco-friendly urban environment.
Municipal gardeners also offered practical advice for the winter months. As temperatures drop, watering should be reduced and delicate species brought indoors to protect them from wind and cold. Plants may appear dormant during winter, they explained, but this resting phase is essential to ensure healthy blooms in the spring.
The annual plant donation continues to highlight the importance of small, everyday actions in preserving nature and biodiversity—values reflected in the park itself, a green haven at the heart of the Principality.
