Beginning Monday, November 10, major renovation work will commence on the escalators running alongside the Rainier III Animal Garden in Monaco. The project is part of a full refurbishment aimed at replacing the ageing installation, which has reached the end of its operational lifespan and must be renewed to ensure continued safety and reliability.
The work is expected to continue until April 30, 2026 and forms part of the Principality’s wider effort to modernise and maintain its public infrastructure.
Throughout the duration of the project, access to the Fontvieille Shopping Centre will remain possible via several alternative routes. Pedestrians will be able to reach the area using the walkway along the Esplanade des Terrasses de Fontvieille, the lifts located beneath the Rock on Boulevard Charles III, or the lifts accessible from the Promenade Honoré II. Temporary signage will be installed to guide users towards these substitute routes.
Once the renovations are complete, the new escalators will offer smoother and safer access between Fontvieille and the upper districts of Monaco, improving convenience for pedestrians while preserving the charm of the surrounding Rainier III Animal Garden.
