The wonderworking Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived on the Côte d’Azur on Monday, November 3, marking a moment of profound spiritual significance for Orthodox Christians in the region.

The revered icon, brought to the Principality of Monaco by Priest Pavel Golynsky of Basel, Switzerland, was warmly received by Priest Evgeny Nikitin, rector of the Parish of the Equal of the Apostles St Elena in Monte Carlo. Its arrival took place on the eve of the parish’s eighth anniversary.

A special moleben (service of supplication) and an akathist hymn were offered before the sacred image, with the church filled by worshippers who came to venerate the icon and seek the intercession of the Mother of God.

This marks the second time the Kursk-Root Icon has visited Monaco, and its return was greeted with deep emotion and reverence. Parishioners described the occasion as a moment of blessing and renewal for the growing Orthodox community in the Principality.

The Kursk-Root Icon, one of the most venerated in the Russian Orthodox Church, is renowned for centuries of miracles and healings, and its visits abroad continue to draw large numbers of faithful seeking comfort and grace.
