His Serene Highness Prince Albert II is undertaking his first official visit to Paraguay, a three-day trip that underscores growing cooperation between the two nations. The visit takes place from Monday, November 3 to Wednesday November 5 at the invitation of Paraguayan President Santiago Peña.
Upon his arrival in Asunción, the Sovereign was greeted with full military honours before beginning his programme at the National Pantheon of Heroes, one of Paraguay’s most revered historical sites. Accompanied by General Alcides Lovera, Minister and Chief of the Military Cabinet, and Ambassador Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, Prince Albert laid a wreath in tribute to the Heroes of the Nation, observed a moment of silence, and signed the official guestbook before receiving a historical briefing on the monument.
The Monegasque Sovereign was later received at the Presidential Palace by President Peña for an official ceremony held in the palace gardens. Following the welcoming ceremony, the two Heads of State held private bilateral discussions before joining their respective delegations for extended talks.
As a gesture of mutual respect and friendship, the leaders exchanged state honours: Prince Albert II was awarded the Order of Marshal Francisco Solano López, while President Peña received the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint-Charles, one of Monaco’s highest distinctions.
Talks between the two delegations focused on expanding collaboration in environmental protection, trade, and cultural exchange, areas where Monaco and Paraguay share growing mutual interests. The First Lady of Paraguay, Leticia Ocampos, was also present during the ceremonies.
The visit, rich in symbolism and diplomatic goodwill, marked a new milestone in relations between the Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Paraguay — a partnership now set to deepen through shared commitments to sustainable development and international cooperation.
