To mark the 20th anniversary of the reign of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, the Principality has unveiled a new engraved portrait of the Sovereign that will appear on its one- and two-euro coins from the end of October 2025…

The updated design, issued by the General Treasury of Finance, replaces the familiar profile that has graced Monaco’s euro coins since their introduction in 2005.

The new portrait, more detailed and refined, depicts Prince Albert II facing forward, surrounded by his crowned monogram and the Grimaldi family coat of arms, symbolising both continuity and renewal. It bears the millennium 2025, underscoring two decades of leadership defined by the Prince’s commitment to environmental protection, cultural heritage, and humanitarian values.

This artistic evolution follows a long-standing numismatic tradition in Monaco, where portraits of the reigning Sovereign have regularly evolved to mark milestones in the country’s history. The 2025 issue is expected to attract strong interest from collectors across Europe, as Monegasque coins are among the most sought-after in the eurozone due to their limited circulation.

Elegant yet symbolic, the new coin design serves as both a tribute to the Prince’s two decades of reign and a reflection of Monaco’s enduring identity, uniting tradition, modernity, and prestige in the smallest details of its currency.
