A new chapter in Monaco’s energy story began on Wednesday, October 15, as their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène officially opened the new headquarters of the Société Monégasque de l’Électricité et du Gaz (SMEG): a sleek, modern structure now known as the “Immeuble SMEG.”

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Thomas Battaglione, CEO of SMEG, alongside senior members of the Princely Government and other notable figures from Monaco’s business and civic community.

Standing 10 storeys tall and spanning 12,000 square metres, the new building symbolises both growth and renewal for the company, which celebrates its 135th anniversary this year. It will serve as the new base for SMEG’s teams, while also accommodating private tenants and several government departments, reflecting the Principality’s integrated approach to urban development.

The event carried a distinct sense of continuity: more than three decades after Prince Rainier III and then–Hereditary Prince Albert inaugurated the company’s previous site, the torch has now been passed to a new era of energy innovation and environmental responsibility.
