George Russell delivered a near-perfect drive under the lights of Marina Bay to claim victory at the Singapore Grand Prix, while McLaren secured enough points to seal the 2025 Constructors’ Championship — even as tensions flared between their drivers.
Starting from pole, Russell controlled the race from start to finish, never looking troubled as he steered his Mercedes to a commanding win ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris. Behind him, the opening laps were far more dramatic: Norris clipped the back of Verstappen’s Red Bull before brushing wheels with team-mate Oscar Piastri in a tense intra-team battle that left radio channels buzzing.
Despite the early contact, both McLarens escaped serious damage. Piastri, however, was audibly unimpressed with the move, accusing his team-mate of being “over-aggressive” — comments that will no doubt be discussed behind closed doors in Woking.
Up front, Russell was untouchable, delivering a measured and mature performance to claim his second win of the season and the fifth of his Formula 1 career. Verstappen held off a charging Norris in the closing laps, denying the Briton a chance to snatch second place, while Piastri crossed the line in fourth to help McLaren clinch back-to-back titles in the teams’ standings.
Mercedes had more to celebrate as rookie Kimi Antonelli impressed with a strong drive to fifth, bolstering the team’s points haul. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finished sixth ahead of Lewis Hamilton, but the seven-time world champion’s joy was short-lived after he was penalised five seconds for repeated track limits violations, dropping him to eighth and promoting Fernando Alonso to seventh.
Further down the order, Ollie Bearman scored valuable points for Haas in ninth, while Carlos Sainz rounded out the top ten after a solid recovery drive.
The rest of the field stayed largely out of trouble in what proved to be an unusually clean race for Singapore — not a single retirement in sight. Isack Hadjar finished just outside the points in 11th, followed by Yuki Tsunoda, Lance Stroll, Alex Albon, and Liam Lawson. The final five spots went to Franco Colapinto, Gabriel Bortoleto, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, and Nico Hülkenberg.
Russell’s triumph in Singapore marks a statement win for Mercedes — but all eyes will be on McLaren’s camp, where success on paper may not be enough to cool the heat between Norris and Piastri.
