The legendary Salle Garnier played host this weekend to one of classical music’s brightest young talents, as 20-year-old pianist Svyatoslav Zavidov delivered a breathtaking recital that left Monaco’s audience spellbound…
A true prodigy, Zavidov began playing piano at the age of four and gave his first major concert at just ten years old at Carnegie Hall in New York. Since then, he has inherited the mantle of the great Russian pianistic tradition, training under some of the most revered masters and already claiming top prizes in international competitions.
For his Monaco debut with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, he tackled an ambitious programme featuring works by Haydn, Schubert, Ravel and Stravinsky; a demanding journey through centuries of musical history that he navigated with both precision and soul.
Between rehearsals, the young virtuoso shared his philosophy with Monaco Info. “Music allows us to express feelings more powerfully than any other art,” he said, modest yet assured. Outside the concert hall, he admits to having other passions, history and books, but when asked about his dreams, his answer was simple: “To be a citizen of the world.”
The OPMC’s next recital, a tribute to Franck and Schubert, will take place on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Auditorium Rainier III.
