Few British rock bands can claim a connection to Monaco quite like Status Quo…

In 1991, the legendary group was honoured with the Outstanding Contribution to Rock Music award at the World Music Awards, held right in the heart of Monte-Carlo. The accolade was presented by none other than His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and Baywatch icon David Hasselhoff, before the band took to deliver a stunning medley of their greatest hits, delivering their trademark boogie-rock to an adoring international crowd.

But Status Quo’s reputation in the Principality was already well established by then; loud, fast, and full-throttle. Back in 1983, guitarist Rick Parfitt allegedly found himself at the centre of a Grand Prix weekend to remember (or forget), after a now-infamous day of partying with Queen drummer Roger Taylor. Tales of the night’s escapades still circulate in motorsport and music circles alike.

The band’s relationship with Monaco extended beyond the parties and the awards. On August 26, 2005, as part of their XS All Areas world tour, Status Quo performed a full live set at the legendary Sporting Club. Known for its intimate casino shows, the venue played host to the rock veterans in front of a crowd of die-hard fans and curious visitors, all treated to a classic setlist from one of the UK’s most enduring rock bands.

From the glitter of the World Music Awards to the pulse of the Grand Prix and the lights of the casino stage, Status Quo’s decades-long connection to Monaco remains a rock ’n’ roll story worth telling!
