The Théâtre Princesse Grace is placing the spotlight on one of the great tragedies of the French stage this autumn…
On Thursday, 23 October at 8 p.m., the Comédie-Française will present Bérénice at the Grimaldi Forum, bringing Racine’s timeless verses to life under the direction of acclaimed Belgian theatre-maker Guy Cassiers.
This special performance, part of the October programme at the TPG, promises an evening where classicism meets modern visual storytelling. Cassiers is known for immersing audiences in a character’s inner world, and here he plunges viewers into the shadowed thoughts of Bérénice. Caught between love and duty, she faces rejection from Titus, the new emperor of Rome, even as Antiochus secretly adores her.
The production stars Claude Mathieu, Alexandre Pavloff, Suliane Brahim and Jérémy Lopez, leading lights of the Comédie-Française ensemble. Running for approximately one hour and fifty minutes without an intermission, the show is expected to deliver the intensity of Racine’s language with a contemporary aesthetic designed to resonate with today’s audiences.
Bérénice is one of several highlights in a packed October at the Théâtre Princesse Grace, which also features Stéphane Landowski’s Lumière! on 2 October, La Blessure et la Soif on 7 October, the Rencontres Philosophiques on 16 October, Paul Taylor’s English-language comedy F** Me I’m French* on 17 October, and Les Liaisons Dangereuses on 30 October.
Information and tickets are available from the TPG Monday to Friday (9.30 a.m.–1 p.m. and 2–5 p.m.) at +377 93 25 32 27, by email at spectateurs@tpgmonaco.mc or online at montecarloticket.com.
