Roquefort-les-Pins officially became part of Monaco’s network of Historic Grimaldi Sites this week, welcoming His Serene Highness Prince Albert II for a ceremony that underlined centuries of shared history…

Situated between Villeneuve-Loubet, Valbonne, Rouret and La Colle-sur-Loup, the commune of 7,200 residents has roots with the Grimaldi dynasty dating back to the 18th century, when the Princes of Monaco governed nearby Saint-Paul and its surrounding villages.

Mayor Michel Rossi, who has led Roquefort-les-Pins since 1983, received the Sovereign Prince in front of local dignitaries, schoolchildren and residents. Together they unveiled the official plaque marking the town’s membership of the network, in the presence of the president of the Franco-Monegasque Friendship Group, Dominique Estrosi-Sassone. Prince Albert II was also presented with the city’s medal before gifting a statuette of Malizia, a reproduction of the monumental figure on the Palace Square symbolising the dynasty’s founder, to the commune.

The visit continued with a tour of Roquefort-les-Pins’ soon-to-open medical consultation and imaging centre, which will bring together around ten doctors and a radiology practice to serve some 50,000 residents in the surrounding area. With this induction, Roquefort-les-Pins becomes one of roughly 80 French local authorities, alongside about 30 Italian municipalities, now part of the Historic Grimaldi Sites network, which celebrates its 10th anniversary with a major ceremony in Monaco on 10 October.
