The Sanremo Fashion Festival has brought together glamour, history, and cultural heritage with an exhibition dedicated to the memory of Prince Rainier III…

Hosted in the grand setting of the Sanremo Casino, the exhibition showcases a carefully curated selection of the late sovereign’s outfits, ranging from ceremonial uniforms to casual pieces such as a Lacoste jacket and a Scottish raincoat. Each garment highlights Rainier’s dual identity as both a head of state and a man of approachable warmth. The project was organised in close collaboration with the Prince’s Palace of Monaco.

The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, who offered a moving tribute to his father and underlined the enduring connection between Monaco and Sanremo. Last year’s festival placed Princess Grace at the centre of attention; this year’s focus on Rainier III adds a further layer of intimacy, reflecting not only his role as a ruler but also his private life and personality. Rare archival footage of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace strolling through Sanremo brought an evocative sense of nostalgia to visitors, reminding them of the Principality’s longstanding ties with the Ligurian city.

Beyond honouring Monaco’s princely family, the exhibition also pays tribute to Italian creativity and craftsmanship. This year’s programme included a particularly poignant moment as organisers remembered Giorgio Armani, celebrating the life and work of one of Italy’s greatest designers.

Open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight until Sunday, September 14, the exhibition is free to the public. Blending the elegance of Monaco’s royal legacy with the vibrancy of Italian haute couture, the Sanremo Fashion Festival offers visitors a rare chance to reflect on Prince Rainier’s legacy in a setting defined by glamour and history.
