Monaco is set to become the epicentre of international pétanque this month, as top players from across the globe converge for back-to-back weekends of high-stakes competition.

The action begins with the 7th Hereditary Prince Jacques Challenge, launching this weekend at the Rainier-III bowling stadium and under the marquee at Espace Fontvieille. The event follows a triplet group format on Saturday, leading into Sunday’s knockout stage where the final 16 teams will battle for the coveted title.

A formidable field is expected, featuring reigning world champions Diego Rizzi, Alessio Cocciolo, and Andrea Chiapello from Italy, alongside European champions representing Germany. Belgium, Luxembourg, Lebanon, and Catalonia have also sent strong squads, while both French and Italian sides will be looking to upset the favourites. Monaco, competing on home ground, will be hoping to secure a surprise place among the top contenders.

The following weekend will shift focus to the women’s competition, the 4th Princess Gabriella Challenge, contested in pairs exclusively on the Rainier-III courts. Using a Swiss-system format, the tournament will whittle down to the best 16 duos for a Sunday showdown. National teams from Germany, Belgium, Canada, Spain, and Switzerland will compete alongside French contenders and six Monegasque teams, including the squad set to represent the Principality at the upcoming World Championships in Rome.

With elite athletes, passionate supporters, and two weekends of intense play, Monaco is ready to deliver a pétanque spectacle worthy of its growing international reputation.
