The 2025 school year in Monaco has officially begun, marked by a wave of reforms designed to raise academic standards while fostering a healthier, calmer learning environment.

A major emphasis has been placed on enhancing core subjects and introducing new pathways for pupils. Mathematics will benefit from additional workshops, including Olympiads, tutoring sessions and logic challenges. Students will also gain early exposure to artificial intelligence training, aimed at improving digital literacy and preparing them for future technological landscapes. A new vocational preparation class for Year 9 pupils has been launched to better guide career choices, while adjustments to timetables at secondary level seek to optimise learning hours. Music is also entering classrooms in a new pilot scheme for young pupils, created in partnership with the Mairie de Monaco and the Rainier III Academy.

Well-being has been placed firmly on the agenda. A new “NoPhone” policy is being implemented across Year 5, middle and high schools to curb excessive smartphone use during school hours, targeting distractions, anxiety and online bullying. Psychological support services are being expanded, with easier access to counsellors and the introduction of philosophical workshops centred on self-esteem and empathy. Student voices will also be amplified through a strengthened Youth Consultative Committee.

From January 2026, Charles III Middle School will introduce a standardised dress code to reinforce equality, belonging and respect within the school community. The academic year will also feature a series of cultural, sporting and solidarity initiatives to encourage shared identity and pride in learning.

Additional structural changes include the appointment of two new school heads, the temporary relocation of Albert I High School to renovated facilities at the former Charles III College site, a change of catering provider, and a renewed commitment to upholding respect for authority as a core principle of education in the Principality.

With an approach that combines high expectations and strong support, Monaco’s education system is positioning this school year as one of both academic ambition and enhanced well-being, ensuring that pupils thrive both in their studies and in their school environment.
