Monaco United Football Club’s women’s team is set to kick off its inaugural season, following a promising pre-season under head coach Marco Simone. With two friendlies played, including a landmark match against AC Milan’s U19 side, the newly formed squad is preparing to make its competitive debut in the French Cup on Sunday, September 7 before contesting the first-ever all-Monaco women’s derby a week later.
The team’s journey began in Arles, where they earned a convincing 5–1 win over Arles-Avignon in their first match just ten days after assembling. Former French international Marina Makanza etched her name in the club’s history books by scoring its first goal from the penalty spot. Their second pre-season outing, away to Milan, brought a tougher test. Despite a competitive first half, the Italian hosts imposed their experience to secure a 5–1 victory. For Simone, a former AC Milan striker, the return carried personal significance and offered valuable lessons for his players.
“The progress we’ve made in such a short time is encouraging,” said Simone. “The squad is a mix of young talent and experienced players, many of whom I recruited through open trials and extensive scouting. We’re building something that reflects an attacking philosophy and a desire to grow quickly.”
The 2025/26 season begins with immediate milestones. After their French Cup debut at FC Carros, Monaco United will meet ASMFF’s second team on Sunday, September 14 in the first-ever Principality derby at women’s senior level, a fixture that symbolises the rapid growth of the women’s game in Monaco.
Off the pitch, the project has gained major support with the Marzocco Group announced as the official sponsor for the season. Claudio Marzocco emphasised the company’s commitment: “We wanted to take tangible action to support women’s football in Monaco, a sport that still doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. By backing this project, we aim to help it flourish locally and eventually reach the highest levels.”
