Monaco is set to release a pair of special stamps this autumn to celebrate three decades of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China. The commemorative issue, designed by artist Yan Ping, will go on sale on Wednesday, October 15.
The designs highlight the connection between the two nations with two symbolic flowers: the Campanula medium, a large-flowered bellflower common in southern Europe, and the cymbidium orchid, native to China and parts of tropical Asia.
Diplomatic exchanges between Monaco and China have included milestone state visits, notably President Xi Jinping’s historic trip to the Principality in 2019, following His Serene Highness Prince Albert II’s visit in 2018 and the first official visit in 2007. The Monaco Stamp Office emphasised that cooperation between the two nations continues to focus strongly on environmental action, sporting values, and a renewed momentum in trade relations after the slowdown caused by the global health crisis.
A total of 55,000 pairs will be issued and made available through the Stamp Office, the Museum of Stamps and Coins, local post offices, philatelic counters, and authorised dealers across Monaco.
