The Embassy of Monaco in Brussels has recently hosted a grand reception to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the accession of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II. The event, held at the Embassy’s headquarters, brought together over 150 guests, including senior Belgian officials, EU representatives, diplomats, international organisation delegates, as well as members of civil society and Monegasque nationals living in Belgium.

In his address, Ambassador Frédéric Labarrère highlighted the significant progress achieved by Monaco over the past two decades under the guidance of the Sovereign Prince. He underscored Prince Albert II’s strong commitment to environmental protection and ocean preservation, citing the recent Blue Economy and Finance Forum in Monaco as a testament to these priorities. Guests also learned more about the Principality’s expanded efforts in supporting vulnerable communities worldwide through increased development aid to partner countries.

The reception also showcased Monaco’s growing international profile. Ambassador Labarrère pointed to the Principality’s recent titles of “World Capital of Sport 2025” and “Best European Tourist Destination 2025” as proof of its global appeal. The evening featured a cultural nod to “Destination Monaco” with vintage and modern posters on display, alongside a cocktail bar serving drinks made with Monegasque ingredients.

As Monaco’s head of mission to the European Union, the Ambassador reaffirmed the Principality’s close relations with EU institutions, rooted in shared values. Addressing the current geopolitical climate, he reiterated Monaco’s unwavering support for multilateralism, human dignity, and the sovereign equality of states. The celebration served not only as a tribute to two decades of leadership by Prince Albert II but also as a reminder of Monaco’s continued influence on the global stage.
