Yoan Makoundou is heading back to Monaco. The 24-year-old French international power forward will rejoin AS Monaco Basket for the upcoming season, following a two-year loan stint that saw him flourish across Europe.
Makoundou, who previously played a key role in Monaco’s historic 2022–2023 French championship win, returns to the Rock with more experience, sharper skills, and an eye on the EuroLeague. The 2.07m forward spent the last two seasons honing his craft first with Buducnost and more recently with Turkish side Turk Telekom, where he averaged 11 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.
His final outing of the season saw him post 16 points against Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe in the championship quarterfinals, underscoring his ability to perform under pressure on big stages. His strong form also earned him a recent call-up to the French national team as a replacement for the injured Mathias Lessort ahead of Euro preparations.
Speaking about his return, Makoundou said: “I’m happy to be back here in Monaco after already spending a season. Returning to the EuroLeague was a goal for me, as I had already mentioned. During my seasons abroad, I progressed and I want to do even more to reach new levels.”
With a strengthened roster and Makoundou back in the fold, the Roca Team will be aiming to build on its domestic and continental ambitions in the season ahead.
