A fierce fire broke out Wednesday afternoon in Beausoleil, gutting a laundromat on the ground floor of a residential building and prompting the evacuation and relocation of all its residents, Monaco-Matin originally reports.

The alarm was raised shortly after 14:30, when flames erupted inside the laundromat at 20 Avenue Maréchal-Foch, in the “Villa Auguste” building. Monaco’s fire brigade responded swiftly, joined by reinforcements from the French Alpes-Maritimes fire service.

An 82-year-old resident was rescued from the first floor via ladder, while firefighters worked to prevent the blaze from spreading to the apartments above. Two hoses were deployed to douse the flames, and teams scoured the upper floors to ensure no one was trapped.

It took a joint force of 31 emergency responders and 10 vehicles to bring the fire under control by 15:30. Despite the rapid response, the laundromat was completely destroyed, with washing machines, supplies, and the premises reduced to ash.

As a safety measure, traffic on Avenue Maréchal-Foch and Boulevard de la République was shut down during the operation. Later that evening, Beausoleil town officials confirmed that all twelve residents of the building’s six flats would be temporarily relocated.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
