Monegasque swimmer Lisa Pou has made history by securing a bronze medal in the women’s 10km event at the World Open Water Swimming Championships in Singapore…

It marks Monaco’s first-ever world championship medal across all swimming disciplines and age categories — a moment of immense pride for both the athlete and the Principality. Held off the coast of Sentosa Island, the race took place in punishing conditions, with the water temperature reaching a near-dangerous 30.8°C and strong currents and waves testing even the most experienced swimmers.

Pou described the result as the culmination of a year marked by challenges, thanking her training group, family, and support network for helping her persevere. “There were many moments this year when things didn’t go well,” she shared with Monaco Info. “This medal means a lot; it’s for all the people who helped me through.”

The race had already been postponed twice due to poor water quality, requiring competitors to stay physically and mentally prepared over multiple days. Lisa’s father and coach, Michel Pou, noted that conditions were so extreme that organisers were close to calling off the event. “The swimmers didn’t know this, but the water temperature went above 31°C, right at the regulatory limit.”

Despite the adversity, Lisa delivered a career-defining performance and said the medal has given her renewed confidence. With two races still to go this season, she hopes to build on her success and continue making waves for Monaco on the world stage.
