The Scientific Council for Statistics and Economic Studies held its 17th annual meeting on Monday, July 14 at the Ministry of State, under the chairmanship of Professor Pierre Dubois. The session brought together experts from across Monaco’s administrative, legislative, and civil sectors to review progress and discuss future directions for the Principality’s statistical landscape.

Alexandre Bubbio, Director of the IMSEE, presented an overview of the Institute’s latest work. He highlighted the development of a new property price index, preliminary findings from the 2024 ESPAD survey on adolescent behaviour, updates from the ongoing population census, and upcoming projects, including a tourism survey, an updated analysis on gender pay disparities, and Monaco’s migration to the new NAF 2025 economic classification system.

The Council’s members shared their insights, flagged key areas of interest, and proposed fresh avenues to strengthen the Principality’s statistical apparatus. Their recommendations aim to ensure that Monaco remains equipped with precise, relevant, and forward-looking data to guide public policy.

The session concluded with an address from Marc Vassallo, Secretary-General of the Government, who commended both the Council and IMSEE for their commitment to providing reliable indicators. He emphasised the critical role of robust statistics in understanding Monaco’s social and economic dynamics, tracking its development, and anticipating the challenges ahead.

Following the meeting, the Council members were welcomed by interim Minister of State Isabelle Berro-Amadeï for a working lunch, underscoring the government’s continued support for evidence-based decision-making.

The Council serves in an advisory capacity to the Minister of State and is tasked with ensuring the independence and integrity of Monaco’s statistical system. It contributes to shaping the annual research agenda and advising on national studies, playing a key role in supporting transparent and informed governance.
