To mark Monaco’s designation as World Capital of Sport 2025, the Principality has unveiled a spectacular series of floral sculptures installed throughout public spaces…

Created by the Direction de l’Aménagement Urbain (DAU), these living artworks pay tribute to iconic sporting symbols, transforming parks and gardens into a celebration of athletic achievement and horticultural excellence. Among the striking creations are a life-sized Formula 1 car, vibrant clusters of tennis balls, a basketball, rugby balls, and rhythmic gymnastics clubs—each one carefully constructed from thousands of flowers and plants.

The project, several months in the making, was led by the dedicated teams of the Saint-Laurent d’Eze nursery. In total, 12,000 begonia seeds were sown, 10,000 plants repotted, 850 Ajuga plants propagated, and 8,000 flowers planted, representing more than 400 hours of meticulous work. Eight staff members were involved across various stages, under the guidance of two team leaders. From the first seeds planted in late 2024 to the final floral installations, each stage—from propagation and painting to moss application and precision planting—was executed with care and creativity.

Accompanied by educational panels explaining the sport each sculpture represents, these floral tributes add colour and meaning to Monaco’s streetscapes. They highlight not only the Principality’s deep commitment to sport and culture but also the artistry and dedication of its public works teams. As Monaco embraces its year as a world sporting capital, these living installations offer both residents and visitors a poetic reminder of the beauty of competition, community, and craft.
