Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Monaco’s acting Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, is currently in Japan as part of a diplomatic visit leading up to the celebration of Monaco Day at the Osaka Kansai 2025 World Expo on Saturday, June 28.
Her trip began in Tokyo, where she met with Hisayuki Fujii, Japan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. The two officials discussed global issues, bilateral relations between Monaco and Japan, and Monaco’s participation in the upcoming world expo. Both welcomed the strong ties between the two countries, built on shared values. Berro-Amadeï also raised the topic of the double taxation agreement currently under negotiation.
The Minister then held talks with Akihiko Tanaka, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The discussions focused on Monaco’s development cooperation policies and potential partnerships with Japan in key areas such as healthcare, education and child protection.
Finally, Berro-Amadeï met with Yohei Sasakawa, President of the Nippon Foundation, a philanthropic organisation active in healthcare, education, environmental protection and economic development. Like Monaco, the foundation works to support vulnerable communities, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
The visit reflects Monaco’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international partnerships and raise its profile on the global stage ahead of its participation in Osaka 2025.
