Monaco reaffirmed its commitment to global health cooperation at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA), held in Geneva from Monday, May 19 to Tuesday, May 27. The Principality was represented by Christophe Robino, Minister of Social Affairs and Health, and Ambassador Carole Lanteri, Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva.

This year’s WHA, themed “A World United for Health,” took place against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions and mounting global health challenges. Despite these obstacles, delegates reached a milestone agreement on a new pandemic treaty—an outcome Minister Robino praised as essential for future preparedness.

During the Assembly, the Monegasque delegation underscored the Principality’s continued support for multilateralism and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially in the face of growing strain on the global health system.

The World Health Organization (WHO) also confronted financial turbulence, prompting intense debate over its 2026–2027 programme budget. Member states ultimately agreed on a significantly reduced financial plan, likely to usher in internal restructuring.

On the sidelines of the event, Monaco engaged in several bilateral meetings with health ministers from Italy, Madagascar, and Lebanon. These discussions covered shared priorities and allowed for broader dialogue between Monaco and the international health community on pressing global health issues.
