Under new powers granted to the public prosecutor by the 2024 revision of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a coordinated security operation was carried out at Monaco’s heliport on Monday, May 19.

The operation, led by officers from the Directorate of Public Security and supervised by two members of the public prosecutor’s office, included a sniffer dog trained to detect both narcotics and cash. Travellers on nine incoming and outgoing flights were subjected to checks, with their baggage also inspected.

The sweep resulted in the discovery of one gram of cocaine, prompting legal proceedings against the individual concerned.

Authorities have confirmed that such operations will be conducted on a regular basis, not only at the heliport but across other entry and exit points in the Principality.
