Monaco’s Mairie has reaffirmed its commitment to public health and community solidarity with a successful in-house blood drive held on Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15 at the Foyer Sainte Dévote. The initiative invited elected officials and municipal employees to roll up their sleeves—literally—in support of a cause that can save up to three lives with a single donation.
The effort is part of a wider campaign to encourage blood donation in the Principality, a matter taken seriously by the Conseil Communal and the Mairie. By bringing the initiative to the workplace, organisers aimed to make donation more accessible and convenient, particularly for those with busy schedules.
First Deputy Mayor Camille Svara, responsible for social affairs, praised the behind-the-scenes teamwork that made the event possible. “A collection like this requires real planning,” she noted. “I want to thank Isabelle Costa, our Secretary General, who immediately supported the idea, the team from the Senior Citizens and Social Action Department who have worked closely with the Princess Grace Hospital Centre since the start of the year, as well as the Technical Services and Municipal Police. It’s encouraging to see how this type of initiative brings people together—I think that’s one of its strongest points.”
The Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace (CHPG) relies on a steady supply of blood to meet ongoing needs, making mobile collections like this vital. Holding the drive on-site also offers practical benefits for staff, eliminating travel and scheduling barriers that might otherwise prevent participation.
Buoyed by the event’s success and high level of engagement, the Mairie and Conseil Communal are already looking to make the blood drive an annual fixture on their calendar—a testament to their ongoing dedication to public service and community well-being in the Principality.
