Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, Second Secretary at Monaco’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, has been elected Vice-President and Rapporteur of the UN’s Committee on Information for the 2025–2026 term.

The appointment, made on Monday, April 28, places Monaco in a key position within the committee responsible for global public information policy and the oversight of the UN’s Department of Global Communications (DGC). This body plays a pivotal role in ensuring the visibility, transparency, and credibility of the United Nations’ messaging worldwide.

In her address to member states, Calem-Sangiorgio highlighted the growing urgency for trustworthy information amid a global rise in misinformation. She praised the DGC’s efforts to provide factual, multilingual content and pointed to campaigns such as “Verified” and initiatives like “Football for the Goals” as examples of how the UN can engage diverse and global audiences effectively.

She reiterated Monaco’s commitment to fundamental freedoms, notably freedom of expression, press safety, and linguistic diversity, describing them as essential to a trustworthy and inclusive information ecosystem. The diplomat also voiced Monaco’s strong support for the UN’s Global Principles for Information Integrity, a recent initiative aimed at reinforcing standards of accuracy and accountability in digital communication.

The Bureau of the Committee on Information for this session includes Estonia as President, with Bolivia, Djibouti, Lebanon, and Monaco serving as Vice-Presidents.

The appointment marks a significant moment for the Principality, positioning it at the heart of international efforts to uphold truth and integrity in an increasingly fractured media landscape.
