The Princely Family of Monaco has completed a heartfelt and historically symbolic visit to Brittany and Normandy, celebrating the enduring ties between the Grimaldi dynasty and the French regions…

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, accompanied by Princess Charlene and their children, Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, received a warm welcome in the commune of Matignon—a place deeply connected to Monaco’s history since the early 18th century.

The visit paid tribute to shared heritage, dating back to Jacques I de Matignon, who became Prince of Monaco in 1731 through his marriage to Princess Louise-Hippolyte Grimaldi. At Fort La Latte, the family unveiled a commemorative plaque in honour of Prince Rainier III, reinforcing emotional bonds between the Grimaldi lineage and Brittany’s proud traditions.

In Moyon, the Princely Family inaugurated the Grimaldi Media Library, a cultural space opened under the High Patronage of Prince Albert II. The modern facility is designed to promote access to knowledge and reflects Monaco’s support for local heritage and education. The village, home to just 1,500 residents, proudly celebrated this moment of royal recognition, with one resident noting, “For us, it’s exceptional to welcome the Prince—we’ve always been Monegasque at heart.”

The day concluded with a commemorative ceremony in Saint-Lô, further strengthening ties between the Principality and the region as part of the “Grimaldi Historic Sites of Monaco” initiative. As Prince Albert continues his journey through the Channel and Calvados, the visit has underlined not only historical ties but also a living, evolving relationship rooted in shared values and cultural exchange.
