This weekend, Monaco is set to witness an extraordinary show of endurance and solidarity as a 48-hour running challenge kicks off to benefit the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation…
The initiative, spearheaded by Frédéric Paulsen, begins at 8 p.m. on Friday from the Foundation’s headquarters on Quai Antoine Ier and continues through to Sunday at 4 p.m.
The format is simple but demanding: runners of all levels will gather every four hours for group runs around Port Hercule — at midnight, 4 a.m., 8 a.m., and so on — keeping the energy alive day and night for two full days. Some participants will go at a steady pace, others will race ahead, but all will be united by a shared goal: raising awareness and funds for the Foundation’s key mission — drowning prevention.
As Paulsen explained to Monaco Info, this challenge is particularly close to his heart. “I’ve swum competitively all my life,” he said, “and I know the joy and confidence that comes with being safe in the water. Teaching kids to swim — and to respect the water — is a life-saving gift.”
The Princess Charlene Foundation has already helped close to one million children worldwide through its “Learn to Swim” programme, and this challenge aims to keep that momentum going.
Beyond the athletic feat, the event promises a festive, community-driven spirit. “It’s also about meeting people, having fun, and pushing yourself,” Paulsen said.
Those wishing to join can head to the Princess Charlene Foundation on Friday at 8 p.m. or sign up via the official website. Whether running or donating, every step counts toward a safer, stronger future for children across the globe.
