The Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace (CHPG) in Monaco has taken a significant leap forward in its digital transformation with the integration of the cutting-edge Smartspeed AI module into its MRI system. Launched on Wednesday, March 12, this innovative upgrade slashes examination times while enhancing image resolution, paving the way for quicker and more accurate diagnoses.

The Smartspeed module proves especially vital in cases of suspected strokes, where every second counts. It optimises MRI angiogram sequences to pinpoint blockages or narrowing in small brain arteries and ASL sequences to assess cerebral blood flow, identifying underperfused areas. This advancement promises to expedite stroke treatment, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Purchased and implemented in December 2024, the technology was made possible through a generous donation from Dmitry Rybolovlev, a physician-trained philanthropist with a passion for medical innovation. Speaking at the inauguration, Rybolovlev expressed his pride in supporting the CHPG’s modernisation: “As someone trained in medicine and fascinated by new technologies, I understand the critical importance of rapid, precise diagnoses. It’s thrilling that Monaco now has state-of-the-art equipment to detect serious conditions like strokes. I’m delighted to once again contribute to the hospital and the Principality’s residents.”

Hospital Director Benoîte Rousseau de Sevelinges hailed the upgrade as a game-changer: “Thanks to Mr. Rybolovlev’s generosity, we can now treat more patients, cut wait times for MRI scans, and streamline the patient journey. This aligns perfectly with our mission to enhance the patient experience.”

Government Counselor-Minister Christophe Robino echoed this sentiment, emphasising Monaco’s commitment to cutting-edge healthcare: “AI opens extraordinary possibilities for predictive medicine and early detection. This strategic investment, made possible by Mr. Rybolovlev—whom I sincerely thank—reflects our dedication to medical excellence, blending technological innovation with the humanity that drives us.”

The Smartspeed module bolsters an already impressive imaging department at CHPG. Since 2021, the hospital has utilised HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) guided by MRI for non-invasive treatment of uterine fibroids—a technology available at only two centres in the France-Monaco region. With this latest addition, CHPG solidifies its position as a leader in advanced medical imaging.
