In a significant step towards regional collaboration, Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Monaco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, participated in the second meeting of the Franco-Italian Cross-Border Cooperation Committee. The high-level discussions took place at Villa Masséna in Nice, co-chaired by France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, and Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani.
Established under the Quirinal Treaty—signed between France and Italy in November 2021—the committee aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation across key sectors, providing a structured framework for ongoing collaboration. While Monaco is not a direct signatory, its geographical and economic ties to the region have led France and Italy to welcome the Principality as an official observer in these meetings.
This second session, following the committee’s inaugural gathering in Turin last October, focused on evaluating progress in cross-border cooperation. Key topics included transportation, environmental sustainability, education, and healthcare. Two issues of particular relevance to Monaco were at the forefront: the enhancement of rail services on the Nice-Ventimiglia line and the management of water resources in the Roya Valley, a vital supply source for the Principality.
Speaking at the meeting, Isabelle Berro-Amadeï reaffirmed Monaco’s commitment to ensuring a high-quality rail service for commuters and residents using Monaco’s central train station. She also stressed the importance of responsible water management in the Roya Valley, emphasising the Government of Monaco’s vigilance in preserving this essential resource.
As discussions continue, Monaco’s participation highlights its dedication to fostering regional cooperation, ensuring the efficient management of shared infrastructure, and strengthening ties with its neighbours in France and Italy.
