The Monaco Red Cross hosted a vital two-day blood collection campaign at its Boulevard de la Costa headquarters, expecting to welcome 70 donors to help replenish the Principality’s blood reserves, which remain in urgent demand…
Staff from the Princess Grace Hospital Centre, including two doctors and three nurses, supervised the initiative, emphasising the importance of this life-saving gesture. Blood donations play a critical role in maintaining a steady supply, with Monaco needing approximately 5,000 donations annually but only collecting 2,348 bags in 2024.
Participants undergo a straightforward process, beginning with a medical questionnaire and consultation to ensure eligibility. Donors must be in good health, aged 18 to 65 for first-time donations (up to 70 for regular donors), and weigh more than 50 kilograms. The donation itself takes about 10 minutes, followed by refreshments to rehydrate and recover.
Among the donors was a well-known local figure, who shared encouragement, stating, “If I can do it, anyone can.” Many, like one young donor who brought their parents along, highlighted the spirit of community and solidarity that drives this initiative.
Regular donation opportunities are available Monday through Thursday at the Princess Grace Hospital, with a bloodmobile service offering transportation within the Principality.
Donors can still register for this critical collection by visiting the Monaco Red Cross website or checking Monaco Health News. Every contribution is a step toward meeting the Principality’s ongoing need for life-saving blood supplies.
