The fifth edition of the Fight AIDS Cup is set to take place on Wednesday, January 22, at 17:30 at the Stade Louis II in Monaco. This charity football match, organised to support the FIGHT AIDS MONACO association founded and chaired by HSH Princess Stéphanie, will bring together the Barbagiuans and Cirque FC teams in a memorable evening of sport, solidarity, and tribute. This year’s event carries special significance as it honours the legacy of Jean Petit, a legendary figure in Monegasque football and a beloved member of the Barbagiuans.

HSH Prince Albert II, the honorary president of the Barbagiuans, reflected on the camaraderie and joy that the team has always embodied. Meanwhile, Louis Ducruet, president of the Barbagiuans and key organiser, emphasised the importance of this milestone anniversary, promising an unforgettable evening for attendees. The match will feature recently retired football stars, adding to the event’s allure and broadening its appeal across generations. The evening will also include a tribute to Jean Petit with a symbolic kick-off by his family, a moment of applause, and the awarding of the “Jeannot Petit” trophy to the best Barbagiuans player.

Patrice Evra, a former captain of the French national team and one of football’s most charismatic figures, will serve as the event’s first official sponsor. Evra, known for his advocacy and philanthropic efforts, expressed his deep connection to Monaco, where he began his illustrious career. As a player for the Barbagiuans, he aims to inspire both on and off the pitch, sharing his message of resilience and hope. Reflecting on his upbringing and personal challenges, Evra said, “I want to meet people who are suffering and give them courage, and this will be the case once again at the Fight AIDS Cup.”

This year’s lineup also includes Christian Karembeu, a French international and 1998 World Cup champion, who will play for Cirque FC. Karembeu, like other participants, sees the event as a chance to unite the football community while supporting a crucial cause. “This event is more than just a match; it’s a celebration of solidarity and a platform to raise awareness for people living with HIV,” he stated.

Christophe Glasser, Director of FIGHT AIDS MONACO, underscored the event’s significance in promoting inclusion and combating discrimination. He highlighted the Fight AIDS Cup as a vital platform for raising funds and awareness, demonstrating the unifying power of football.

The Fight AIDS Cup promises to deliver an extraordinary evening, blending sportsmanship, nostalgia, and compassion. Fans are encouraged to gather at Stade Louis II to witness this exceptional event and support a cause that continues to make a profound impact.
