Beginning in 2025, private radar cars will be introduced across the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (Paca), and Occitanie regions. This initiative follows the award of a contract to the OTC company, aimed at reducing speeding and improving road safety in the southern regions of France.

OTC, which has previously managed similar radar operations in Côte-d’Or and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, has been granted a contract worth nearly 34.5 million euros. The agreement spans from December 2024 to December 2026 and includes the gradual deployment of 126 radar-equipped vehicles throughout the year.

These unmarked vehicles will patrol routes designated by state authorities under the supervision of departmental prefects. Their operations will cover a variety of road networks, including motorways, national highways, and local roads, concentrating on areas with a history of accidents caused by excessive speeding.

Equipped with advanced infrared technology, the radar systems will identify and record speeding violations discreetly, without alerting drivers. Enforcement will focus on those driving at speeds of 146 km/h or more on motorways, 124 km/h or more on expressways, and 61 km/h or more in urban areas.
