Starting April 2, 2025, Monégasque citizens traveling to the United Kingdom for business, tourism, or airport transits must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). This new requirement aligns with the UK’s policy for travellers from visa-exempt countries…
What is the ETA?
The ETA is a digital travel permit mandatory for visitors exempt from visa requirements, including citizens of Monaco. It applies to short trips, business visits, and transits but does not replace visas for extended stays or work-related travel. British and Irish nationals are exempt. Travelers must secure their ETA before boarding any flight, train, or other transport to the UK.
Timeline and Implementation
Eligible European nationals, including Monégasques, can apply for their ETA starting March 5, 2025. The requirement becomes mandatory for Monégasque travellers from April 2, 2025.
Who Needs an ETA?
The ETA is required for all nationals from visa-exempt countries, including children and infants. Parents can apply on behalf of minors. Those holding UK visas or residency permits do not need an ETA for their stay.
Application Process
Applications can be made online via the UK government portal or mobile apps available for iOS and Android. Applicants must provide personal and passport details. While most applications are processed swiftly, it’s advised to apply several days before travel.
Cost and Validity
An ETA costs £10 and remains valid for two years unless the traveller’s passport expires, necessitating a new application.
Travelers are encouraged to review updated guidelines on the official UK government website to ensure smooth compliance with these requirements.
