Greek basketball legend Vassilis Spanoulis is reportedly set to take over as head coach of The Roca Team, marking a monumental moment in his coaching career…
The news, first reported by Serbian outlet Meridian Sport and Eurohoops, comes shortly after Monaco parted ways with Sasa Obradovic on Monday 18th November.
Spanoulis, 42, will bring his formidable basketball pedigree to the Roca Team, who currently hold a 6-4 record in the EuroLeague and rank seventh in the standings. In France’s Betclic Elite league, Roca Team sits at 5-3, two games behind leaders Cholet. With the team aiming to cement its place among Europe’s elite, Spanoulis’ appointment signals a commitment to revitalizing their championship aspirations.
A three-time EuroLeague champion during his illustrious playing career, Spanoulis transitioned to coaching in 2021, starting with the Euroleague Basketball Next Generation Tournament. He later made a significant impact with Peristeri, leading the Greek club to the Basketball Champions League Final Four and earning the 2023-24 BCL Best Coach award.
As the current head coach of Greece’s senior national team, Spanoulis successfully guided the squad to a Quarterfinals finish at the Paris Olympics and has been credited by NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo for elevating his confidence and skill set.
His arrival in Monaco promises to bring tactical expertise and a winning mindset to a team eager for EuroLeague and domestic success. Spanoulis’ tenure will likely attract significant attention as he reshapes the Roca Team’s ambitions.
