The Principality of Monaco has introduced a new resource to help identify and address violence in couples and among young people. As part of ongoing efforts to support victims of domestic abuse, the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Women’s Rights, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Social Services, has released a brochure titled “Scale of Violence.”
This tool is designed to assist professionals in Monaco by providing a framework to help victims recognise and understand the level of violence they may be experiencing. The brochure outlines three levels of violence: Serenity, Alert, and Danger, with specific examples of behaviours across various forms of violence, including psychological, economic, physical, and sexual abuse. The brochure, available in both French and English, also includes contact information for local support services.
The resource has been distributed to key institutions such as the Department of Social Welfare, Princess Grace Hospital, the Association for Assistance to Victims of Crime (AVIP), the Department of Public Safety, and other relevant organisations.
A youth-oriented version of the “Scale of Violence” has also been created, featuring language and examples tailored to issues affecting young people, such as cyberbullying and psychological, physical, and sexual violence. This edition incorporates illustrations from the manga Blitz, used during Monaco’s 2023 campaign to eliminate violence against women.
Starting in November, during the month against bullying, the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports will implement the tool in schools across Monaco. The brochure will be distributed to students, accompanied by educational actions to raise awareness and guide its use.
