The rock face overlooking the lower section of the Rampe Major, Avenue de la Porte Neuve, Place d’Armes, and Boulevard Charles III is set to undergo crucial safety work to mitigate the risk of rockfall.
The first phase of these safety measures will commence on Thursday, 3 October, near the bottom of the Rampe Major, close to the police station, with no expected impact on pedestrian traffic.
To prepare for the next phases of the project, a temporary protective gallery will be installed along the sidewalk running beneath the rock face, between the “Place d’Armes” bus stop at the base of the Rampe Major and the stop on Boulevard Charles III. The gallery construction will take place during nighttime hours, from 19:00 to 01:00, between Monday, October 7 and Friday, November 8. Pedestrian access will be maintained, with traffic guides and barriers as needed, while efforts will be made to minimise noise.
This protective gallery will ensure pedestrian safety and maintain traffic flow during the ongoing work, which is scheduled to continue on this section of the rock face until 20 December 2024.
