A gas leak on Boulevard des Moulins in Monaco prompted a temporary road closure on Wednesday, October 2. The incident occurred at number 41, where a gas meter malfunction required intervention by Monaco’s firefighters and the Société Monégasque de l’Électricité et du Gaz (SMEG).
A worker on the boulevard first noticed a suspicious gas smell and alerted authorities. The leak, difficult to locate initially, was identified with the help of SMEG’s detection instruments on a connection box linked to the SMEG network.
Eighteen firefighters and five vehicles were dispatched to the scene, with the operation gradually intensifying. Despite the minor nature of the leak, SMEG stated that the “precautionary principle was applied,” resulting in the gas supply being cut and the boulevard closed to traffic from 13:45 to 15:00. A security perimeter was also established by Public Safety officers during the intervention. Final repairs on the connection box are currently underway, according to SMEG.
