Trees and plants will be transported to the Mareterra project in their thousands – by sea. More specifically, approximately 350 large trees and more than 15,000 shrubs will be taken alongside 2,000 cubic metres of topsoil on board the Edmond barge, owned by the Trasomar company of the JB Pastor & Fils group.
The decision to transport all that greenery by barge follows concerns that the number of lorries required for such an ambitious project would disrupt traffic around Mareterra.
As reported by La Gazette, the aim is to complete the operation by the end of April, in order to respect the planting window started in November, 2023. However, preparation began in 2018, when the Mediterranean varieties were carefully selected at a leading Italian nursery.
