A Monegasque delegation, composed of Ms Frédérique Vidal, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and Mr Wilfrid Deri, Focal Point of Monaco, took part in the 10th Annual Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, which inaugurates the preparatory sequence leading to the 6th United Nations Assembly for the Environment, at the end of February in Nairobi.
Its theme will be “Multilateral effective actions, inclusive and sustainable, to fight climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.”
Bringing together delegations from around a hundred Member States, the meeting carried out a detailed informational review on administrative matters, strategy and programs of UNEP.
Monaco particularly supports strategies promoting nature-based solutions to combat the triple environmental crisis: climate change, loss of biodiversity and pollution.
More precisely, the activities supported by Monaco must make it possible to develop concrete, deployable and reproducible solutions, based on inclusive participation and carried out by the local communities primarily concerned. The members of the Monegasque delegation spoke with Ms Inger Andersen, UNEP Executive Director, who said of Monaco: “It is impressive to see how such a small country can have such a great influence on environmental policies.”
