A 42 year-old Beausoleil resident is in jail after setting fire to the door of his ex-girlfriend in Roquebrune Cap Martin.
Police officers put out the flames after petrol had been thrown at the door and set alight, but not before breathing in toxic smoke.
The alleged culprit was soon arrested in Beausoleil, and while in preventative detention is receiving psychiatric evaluation.
He told investigators, apparently with some astonishment, that he had not been himself on the night of the attack and that he could have killed someone.
