AS Monaco have announced that Thiago Scuro will succeed Paul Mitchell as the sporting director of the club, in a press release published on Wednesday, June 7.
Scuro joins Monaco from Red Bull Bragantino in the Brazilian first division, where he has held the position of Sporting Director since 2018. A former head of football operations for the Red Bull Group in Brazil, the Brazilian made a major contribution to Bragantino’s rise from the second division to reaching the final of the 2021 Copa Sudamericana.
The press release goes on to state that Scuro will begin in the role of Sporting Director from July 1. In the meantime, Mitchell, who announced his departure earlier this year, will accompany Scuro for part of the summer period to allow for the smoothest possible transition.
Among the most pressing of challenges that wait for Scuro in the Principality is the task of appointing a new head coach, as Philippe Clement departs after a less than satisfactory season at the helm of the club. Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch and Red Bull Salzburg coach Matthias Jaissle are believed to be on the shortlist of suitable candidates to replace Clement.
