Two visitors to the Ever Monaco event appeared in handcuffs at Monaco Criminal Court after setting off a major armed response from the Monaco Police.
The passenger in their car had pointed a toy pistol at passers-by in Fontvieille last Friday, May 12, just “for a laugh.”
However, the targets of their humour were not amused and the police were alerted by the driver of the vehicle they were following as they looked for a parking spot.
The two culprits were apprehended by armed police and spent three nights in jail. Their defending lawyer argued that this shock was enough to deter future offending, while the persecution argued for three-month suspended jail sentences.
Bearing in mind they had no previous convictions, the court took in the pleas of the defence and passed a sentence on both pranksters of 1,000-euro fines, suspended.
