The benchmark incidence rate, which measures the number of cases adjusted for 100,000 population rose in Monaco from 138 on Sunday, September 25, to 197 on October 2.
This increase followed a fall in the rate one week earlier from 174 to 138.
However, there is no indication that the increase in infections is leading to serious illness. On Sunday, October 2, only one resident was being treated for coronavirus symptoms at Princess Grace Hospital, together with three non-residents from the local catchment area.
Also on Sunday, the last day for which data is available, 39 residents with mild symptoms were recovering at home, compared to 37 one week earlier and 42 seven days before that.
Infection rates are rising in France and the UK, but despite alarm from some sources, there is no indication that the so-called eighth wave will be particularly serious.
