Having dropped right down the Ligue 1 table ahead of their fixture away against Marseilles on Sunday, March 6, the visitors won a victory in the Vélodrome.

The first half of the fixture saw Monaco pull out all the stops in the defensive department, to keep their hosts from opening the scoring, and Marseille had plenty of opportunities in the first half.

An attentive Alexander Nübel kept the Marseille threat at bay until Monaco midfielder Gelson Martins was able to draw first blood for the visitors, bringing the scoreline to 0-1 at the 58th minute.

While Marseille controlled the vast majority of possession over the course of the match, and took over twice as many shots as their visitors, Monaco emerged victorious as the match concluded with a score of 0-1.

With this away victory now under their belts, Monaco have claimed a crucial three points and move closer to the podium places of the Ligue 1 table, having climbed up to eighth place.

Monaco’s next fixture will see the Monegasques face off against Portuguese side Braga in the first leg of the Europa League’s Round of 16 on Thursday, March 10.
